Tailwaters Lodge on the South Holston is an ideal location for your retreat. We're located in Northeast Tennessee which borders, North Carolina, Virginia, and Kentucky in the Appalachian Mountains and only 20 minutes from I-81. With 230 miles of internationally known rivers and 288 miles of the Appalachian Trail, it’s the true outdoors with endless opportunities to explore. Our lodge is located on the South Holston River, the premier trout fishing river in the East; our sister river, the Watauga River, is only 20-minutes away; and the sprawling South Holston Lake is only a few minutes away, great for boating and fishing.
Tailwaters Lodge offers a unique blend of seclusion and accessibility. Our cabins are located at the end of a dead-end road, surrounded by TVA public lands ensuring your privacy. Yet, we're conveniently close to Bristol TN/VA and the Tri-Cities Airport.
For those who love the outdoors, the opportunities are endless. Enjoy terrific trout fishing, explore over 1.5 miles of accessible private and public river frontage, and wade along 5-miles of scenic river trails. Biking enthusiasts can bike right from their cabin or explore nearby trails like the TVA bike trail and the popular Virginia Creeper Trail.
Pontoon boat rentals on the South Holston Lake and golfing at a private club are also within easy reach. Whether you prefer to be active or simply relax, Tailwaters Lodge on the South Holston has something for everyone.
Group packages include: lodging and catered meals, snacks, and social hour. Guided river floats can be added at the cost of the river guide without an additional service charge. We also offer free airport pickup service, just let us know in advance. Our entire campus has five cabins totaling 14 bedrooms, accommodating up to 28 guests comfortably double occupancy with shared baths. You have two options for your group: our Group Classic or Group Prime depending on whether you want a do-it-yourself approach or all-inclusive package.
Use of our Hatch cabin for your group meetings and for preparing meals. The Hatch has two kitchens including a six-burner gas stove, an outdoor propane grill, and 28 seating capacity on the lower level. You do your own cooking, cleaning and hosting of your group. The Hatch cabin is located on our lower campus enveloped by woods, and offering a large front lawn and private fire pit. Complimentary coffee, firewood, and airport pick-up are included. Rates are based on the Hatch nightly cabin rate.
This option is our newest offering! Enjoy use of our beautiful spacious Great Blue Heron cabin located on our hill offering stunning views of the mountains and river for your meetings and meals. Great Blue Heron cabin includes two large upper and lower decks and a spacious, natural-light great room that can accommodate up to 24 guests. Lodging is in the cabins of your choice while meetings/meals are provided in Great Blue Heron.
Meals are prepared by a private catered chef and include a social hour, hot appetizers, dinner, hot breakfast, snacks and soft drinks. Enjoy breakfast on our upper deck and dinner in a group setting on our lower deck or in the great room. Social hour includes hot appetizers and bring-your-own wine/beer/liquor; and, soft-drink beverages will be stocked in your cabins before you arrive. Why bother buying groceries, cooking, and cleaning or driving to a restaurant when it can all be provided for you in a beautiful peaceful, inspiring setting.
Guided river floats can be added to your stay with either option described above and are provided by our premier, Orvis-endorsed guide service, The South Holston River Company. Guides provide all gear and flies, along with a complimentary lunch on full-day floats. Guides will set up your rod, untangle snags, change flies, and even net your fish. All you have to do is enjoy the day and catch fish! Fishing licenses can be purchased online when you arrive, or prior to coming at www.license.gooutdoorstennessee.com. Our guide service charges $550 for a full-day float (two anglers), and $400 for a half-day (two anglers). We will arrange your floats for you at no extra service charge. No need to call the guide service separately to try to schedule and coordinate, we'll do it for you!
